Hope for the Orphans is Born
Yesterday afternoon we drove through breathtaking mountain scenery from Qacha’s Nek to Maseru, stopping halfway in the town of Moyeni where we met with Tshedy, a local town planner. She generously shared insight into her region and the services currently available for orphaned and vulnerable children.
Later that evening we stayed in Maseru, where we met with five additional town planners over breakfast the following morning. The meeting was deeply informative. We are grateful to these women for their time, honesty, and commitment to their communities.
They spoke with conviction about the realities facing families in their regions and provided statistics and practical insight that helped us understand the scale and complexity of child vulnerability in Lesotho. These conversations offered clarity that we could not have gained on our own.
One moment stood out.
During the discussion, one of the town planners said, “I’m glad there’s hope for the orphans.”
That statement stayed with us.
From those conversations, and with that phrase in mind, a new initiative has taken shape.
Hope for the Orphans has been born.
