OUR WORK

One Day exists to see vulnerable children grow up in loving, safe family homes. We work in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development in Lesotho and under church-led oversight to provide effective, relational care.

This is how that work takes practical shape.

When Care Breaks Down

In Lesotho, economic pressure, illness, and family instability can leave some children without safe and consistent care. When family support is no longer sustainable, protective residential care becomes necessary.

Children are placed with us through formal government referral. Residential care is not our first assumption. It is a safeguarding response when needed.

Family-Style Homes

We build small, stable households led by committed house parents for orphaned and vulnerable children.

Each home provides:

  • Daily structure and routine

  • Consistent adult care

  • Safe accommodation and nutritious meals

  • Safeguarding and oversight

  • A sense of belonging

We are not operating an institution. We are raising children in homes, with a long-term commitment to each child who enters our care.

Formation, Education & Growth

Care is more than protection. It is preparation.

Children attend local schools and are supported in their learning. Alongside education, we intentionally invest in:

  • Life skills

  • Character development

  • Identity and spiritual formation

  • Responsibility and contribution

Our aim is to prepare each child for adulthood with dignity and resilience.

Reunification & Transition

Where safe and appropriate, we support reunification with extended family. Where that is not possible, we prepare young people for independent living.

This includes:

  • Strengthening family relationships

  • Practical preparation for work or further study

  • Ongoing practical, emotional and spiritual support

We want every young person to leave stronger and equipped for the future.

Community Development & Sustainability

Our commitment does not stop at the doors of the homes. We recognise that children grow within wider systems of family, employment, faith, and local leadership.

For long-term change to take root, those systems must be strengthened alongside the children in our care. Through local employment, sustainability initiatives, and small-scale enterprise development, we seek to build resilience within the surrounding community.

These efforts create practical opportunity while contributing to long-term stability for families.

The Ongoing Journey

This work unfolds One Day at a time. Through daily care and long-term planning, we are building homes where children can grow in safety and hope.
